"Inventory: The Tokens" by Christopher Turner

Christopher Turner's piece had an extremely melancholy tone. I felt some considerable remorse for the mothers that had to give up their children due to desperate times, and the process they had to go through to leave a proper token for them? Equally heartbreaking. They had to choose something to leave them that would link them to the family that would have kept them if they could, but also one that the parents themselves would recognize just in case they could reclaim them at a later. This token had so many meanings beyond that as well, it's absolutely remarkable the responsibility said token has in providing the child with an identity. This makes my memento piece take on a whole new level of meaning, because it links me to my Oma and the memories that we shared.
